Job description:

Summary of functions

The Donor Development Department at the Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada raises funds for the Hospital through a variety of activities, including special events. It also provides a unique cultivation and stewardship experience for its donors.

The Shriners Hospital of Canada’s Gift Development Branch raises funds for the hospital through a variety of activities, including special events. It also provides unique cultivation and stewardship experiences for its donors.

Reporting to the Director of Donor Development, the Events Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating all fundraising events for the Hospital, including its prestigious Golf Tournament, supporting third parties in organizing their own events, and organizing cultivation and stewardship events including tours of the Hospital.

This incumbent works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and is responsible for managing costs, handling complex situations and ensuring compliance with hospital policies and processes. He/She will ensure that the strategic objectives of the event are met while providing first class experiences for participants and concerned stakeholders.

The Fundraising Events Specialist maintains relationships with members of the business volunteer committees, partners, participants, donors and suppliers of benefit activities in order to develop and maintain privileged and long-lasting relationships aimed at securing the loyalty of the various target audiences and achieving philanthropic objectives.

Job outline

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate logistics for community, fundraising, and stewardship events, while meeting timelines, budget; and ensuring established goals are met.
  • Work closely with event committees and stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective communication to further deepen engagement.
  • Develop and maintain up event, donor, volunteer and partner databases.
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers at hospital fundraising events.
  • Coordinate and follow up with internal collaborators, partners, suppliers and donors.
  • Actively look for sponsorships and partnerships to enhance event proposals.
  • Promote events and ensure partner visibility.
  • Work closely with Communications and Marketing staff to execute marketing strategies and to develop content for event marketing materials and promotions.
  • Develop an annual fundraising and logistics plan for a hybrid (in-person and virtual) event, in partnership with the Director of Donor Development, including providing timely and ongoing progress reports.
  • Prepare debriefs and analyses of each event and recommend improvements.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration (marketing, public relations) or other academic discipline combined with relevant experience. Studies in philanthropic management are an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a not-for-profit environment, organizing large-scale events.
  • Experience working with volunteer committees, understanding the importance of effective volunteer relations and communication.
  • Advanced project management experience.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, handling competing deadlines and changes to project scope.
  • Embraces planning, attention to detail and managing multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills with ability to cultivate effective professional networks and relationships with individuals, groups and businesses in the community.
  • Knowledge of trends and innovative practices in fundraising and events, including virtual events.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (in French and in English).
  • Autonomous, organized, dynamic, results-oriented and comfortable with juggling multiple files while demonstrating leadership.
  • Ability to work in teams and independently with minimal administrative support.
  • Knowledge and mastery of computer tools and databases.
  • Availability to work flexible hours due to events, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.

We offer you:

Full time temporary position (6 MONTHS).
Annual salary: $45,000- $75,000, according to experience.
