Job description:

NOTE: This posting represents a five year, full-time contract appointment.


Reporting to the Senior Director, Alumni Relations, the incumbent will design and deliver programs that engage and involve alumni in the life of the University.  They will inform and educate alumni about the progress and institutional vision of the University, as well as celebrate and recognize alumni, and attract support for the University by fostering mutually-beneficial, life-long relationships among our alumni and friends as valued stakeholders in Concordia University.


  • Participate in establishing a strategic alumni engagement program for the unit in alignment with the institutional vision.
  • Assist the Senior Director in overseeing the development and implementation of departmental goals.
  • Provide leadership, direct and manage professional and support staff: this includes the delegation of assignments, evaluation of staff performance, and the overall productivity and efficiency of the units.
  • Ensure the Alumni Officers are making decisions, and measuring progress based on data.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate Alumni Relations programs and Affinity Partnerships.
  • Create new and relevant programming.
  • Working in partnership with colleagues in Advancement Services, develop alumni relations metrics and sets departmental “return on investment” (ROI) goals, develop individual dashboards to help track the interconnectivity between Alumni Relations and Fundraising.
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications unit and the Advancement Services unit to develop communication plans, systems and processes that support and inform the alumni relations initiatives.
  • Develop, monitor, and control the unit’s budgets.
  • Oversee on-going market research.
  • Assist the Senior Director in identifying, cultivating and developing volunteer assistance in support of the university’s goals and vision and act as the official liaison between the University and the Alumni Association, in the Senior Director’s absence.
  • Working with the Senior Director, develop campus wide initiatives to promote alumni relations, develop partnerships with key University administrators including the Deputy Provost, the Dean of Students and the Provost.
  • Represent the Senior Director at various University meetings and functions and, in the absence of the Senior Director, is fully responsible for the day-to-day operating of the units.


  • Bachelor’s Degree a field relevant to the primary responsibilities with four to seven years of experience with at least two years in a supervisory role, as well as two years working with volunteers.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken English and French in order to provide advice and support to various constituencies; good knowledge (Level 4) of written English and basic knowledge (Level 3) of written French to prepare proposals, correspondence and reports and to communicate with alumni and external contacts.
  • Basic knowledge of Word (to create and format documents), Excel (to work with spreadsheets and create reports), and PowerPoint (to create presentations) and of database software.
  • Ability to persuade and convince, as well as the ability to consistently communicate the institutional vision.
  • A proven ability to work constructively as a team member in a complex organizational setting.
  • Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to motivate people assigned to projects and special initiatives.
  • Highly organized with the ability to handle numerous projects at the same time.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer-service, communication and managerial skills.
  • Experience working with a number of internal and external stakeholders including Boards, volunteers and donors.
  • Ability to build and maintain a network of mutually beneficial relationships within and outside the University.
  • Proven knowledge and experience with social media.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for events and meetings.
