Job description:

The Opportunity

The Senior Development Officer, Philanthropy (Quebec) is responsible for the activities related to major gifts, and local foundation and grant proposals. This position will report to the Director, Philanthropy. Our successful candidate will be autonomous and comfortable working independently, while reporting to leadership remotely. They will join a dynamic team of colleagues at our newly renovated, downtown Montreal office.

The successful candidate will be an established fundraising professional, with extensive experience in major gifts and will be a strong relationship builder. They will be self-driven, independent and demonstrate excellent communication skills with both internal and external parties. Where appropriate they’ll work with senior executives and volunteers, and will be familiar with best-in-class volunteer management strategies.

What You’ll Contribute:

  • Solicit gifts through customized proposals and face-to-face meetings (virtual and in-person), securing multi-year commitments where possible.
  • Work closely with the Director, Philanthropy and members of the Senior Advancement Leadership Team in the development and execution of philanthropy giving strategies in Quebec.
  • Develop funding proposals to solicit foundations and individuals, collaborating with peers from Advancement Operations, Stewardship and Campaign Communications functions, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationship management strategies for assigned portfolio of donors (Quebec); maintain data hygiene for portfolio in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Identify and cultivate prospective donor relationships by individual contact and attending events, for a diverse fundraising portfolio.
  • Manage fundraising and stewardship pipeline activity: Lead prospect identification process in Ontario and Western Canada, working with
  • Prospect Research, managing and continually building philanthropy pipeline across the stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to develop a network to support awareness and fundraising strategies in various sectors.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in non-profit management, programming and philanthropy.


What You’ll Need:

  • University or college degree in fundraising or related experience in sales, marketing, business development or corporate account management.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ Major Gifts experience, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding annual revenue targets.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting multi-year gifts of $100K+.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated, tact, diplomacy, interpersonal and written skills to liaise with senior management, staff, volunteers and donors.
  • Ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment – developing partnerships with teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to determine work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast paced work environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, Raisers Edge and electronic databases.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.

  • Location: Québec (Hybrid)
  • Salary range: $71,000 to $79,000.
