AFP is committed to the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA) in the fundraising profession, in the philanthropic sector and throughout all of society.

AFP is deeply involved in numerous projects and partnerships linked to the principles of diversity, inclusion, equity and access, grouped together under the term IDEA. Your association plays an important role in the development of the largest and most inclusive community possible and therefore commits, for example, to seeking diversity among its members, by recruiting and maintaining a plural member base. This involves in particular the voluntary and free collection of demographic data.

At AFP, we:

  • Encourage, promote and facilitate membership of members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collect and publish data regarding the demographics of our members on the AFP Global website. The collection of all demographic data is voluntary. Current members can provide or update their information at any time. Members are encouraged to provide their data by logging into their account on the AFP Global website.
  • Develops statistics including data on sex (including gender identity and expression), ethnicity, 2SLGBT + status, disability status, type of job and membership status.
  • Provide marketing materials, branding and advertising reflecting the diversity of our members.
  • Strive to develop a pedagogy that illustrates the fact that a diverse group of people have contributed in the past and should contribute in the future to the richness of the IDEA philosophy.
  • Continuously strive to create an inclusive and respectful environment through critical self-examination, paying particular attention not only to overt forms of prejudice or exclusion, but also to its most subtle manifestations.

“By updating our demographics, we make sure that our association is always aware of the different forms of diversity of our members. Everything is in place to avoid the under-representation of certain groups and to foster an engaged community that acts as a leading player to create an ever more inclusive and united society ”, mentions Gabrielle Blackburn, member of the AFP Quebec board of directors and president of the Diversity/IDEA committee.

Once the data is collected, we are happy to be able to provide this information about our members to our members. We appreciate the comments and avenues for improvement on this data collection and on the communications made on this subject. Suggestions can be emailed to chapter.engagement@afpglobal.org.

To update your demographic data, please visit the AFP Global website, log in to your account and click on “My Demographics”.
