Education and Philanthropy: Understanding the Gap Between Quebec and the Rest of Canada
What if generosity were not just an instinct… but also something we learn?
This panel opens with the presentation of a recent study initiated by the Léger Family Foundation, comparing philanthropic behaviors in Quebec and across the rest of Canada, and revisiting a well-known question: why do Quebecers give less?
By highlighting the role of educational experiences, this research offers a renewed perspective on giving behaviors—and, more importantly, identifies concrete levers that influence the development of a strong philanthropic culture.
Building on these insights, the discussion will explore key questions:
- Can we truly learn to give?
- What role should schools play—and to what extent?
- Who is responsible for fostering a culture of giving: individuals, institutions, or society as a whole?
Bringing together academic perspectives and real-world experience, this panel goes beyond observation to identify actionable, practical, and impactful solutions.
A unique opportunity to deepen your thinking—and collectively rethink how generosity is cultivated.
