Returning to her alma mater to lead advancement at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal and contribute to the University’s major campaign is both an achievement and a natural choice for Katia. “Leading advancement for the Faculty of Medicine is both a dream and a privilege. For 180 years, the Faculty has played a key role in building a healthier world, and it’s an honor to contribute to its development. The timing was perfect to return to my alma mater and take part in the largest philanthropic campaign in the University’s history.”

With over a decade of experience in philanthropy, Katia has built an impressive career, both nationally and internationally. She took her first steps in major gift management at the European University at St. Petersburg before expanding her expertise in Canada. Her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international relations from the Université de Montréal provided her with invaluable skills: “My education helped me develop critical thinking, analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and general knowledge—all essential in our field.”

One of her most notable achievements is establishing the Jean-Marc Vallée Scholarship at Concordia University.

With the help of just one volunteer, she successfully mobilized Hollywood stars to support the next generation of filmmakers. “It was an incredible achievement to see Hollywood stars rally behind a film school in Montreal.”
Beyond her professional role, Katia is deeply committed to advancing the culture of philanthropy. As Co-Chair of the AFP Québec Education Committee, she helps organize inspiring conferences and discussions. “My involvement with AFP allows me to advance philanthropy in Canada while being creative.” Some of our inspiring events include:

The Story of a Transformational Gift at UdeM

As a first-generation immigrant to Canada, born in the Soviet Union, issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion are particularly close to her heart. For Katia, philanthropy must reflect the communities it serves.
She also reminds us that getting involved in philanthropy is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships and bring ideas to life. “Being involved with AFP allows you to turn your ideas into reality, forge connections with peers, and help shape the philanthropic landscape in Canada.”

And if there’s one surprising fact about Katia? Her connection to classical dance. She trained at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy during her childhood and teenage years, and she has since rekindled her passion by taking ballet classes at the Grands Ballets Studio. This demanding discipline mirrors her dedication and precision—both in philanthropy and on stage.

Another of Katia’s passions is public speaking. She believes words have the power to change the world and is a proud member of Toastmasters HEC.
